Chatroom Tutorial
« on: July 16, 2006, 05:26:56 PM »

Edit by Dom - much of this is now out of date. To visit the chatroom, visit http://www.chaserforum.net/chat/flashchat.php

Okay.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, you'll find out if you go to the chatroom, located from the link at the top, or here.

To choose an emoticon for your name, go to Options, then choose the tab Effects.  You'll see from there.  Once you choose your emoticon, tick both of the boxes, and hit Okay.

To choose a different font for your name, go to the bottom right coloured square.

A handy tip is to open the chatroom link by shift+clicking, as this opens the chatroom up into a new window.  This eliminates the bug of accidentally logging out when you go to delete, and the text bar isn't selected.

oh. and go to chatroom > options > themes > public log background to set the background to black. makes the font colours easier to see.

you can also choosy other daggy themes in that window, like some lagoon crap, a dodgy face thing and an ubercool lightning theme  :-D

To open up a private chat with someone, left-click on their name from the list on the right, and select it from the drop-down bar.

Use it (the personal message function - Nate) with caution, and never give out your phone number, especially not to the males of this forum.

the first message i get is to enter my username and password.  is that the same as the forum username and password or am i supposed to register to use the chat?  because my forum username and pass aren't working :(

Solution by Cyanara:

I realised that I had never actually received an activation email, so I sought out a resend form and found one. unfortunately, it asked me for my username and email address, while only providing a box for my username, and when I tried just that it told me that no such user existed. Of course not. I'd only posted several times...

Moving on, I tried the lost password form. Hooray! All the fields were there. Filled that out. Got an email almost instantly. Logged in with the new password. Both forum and Chatroom acknowledged me and I changed my password back to something slightly memorable.

EDIT:  html fix, additional information.

It might help to make this topic sticky, Nick.

I'll alter my original post as more good tips come in.

Click on their name in the list to the right, and select 'Private Message'.

Use it with caution, and never give out your phone number, especially not to the males of this forum.

This is another timely reminder for the ladies on the forum to stop sending me your phone numbers. Because I have not asked for them, it is best that I do not receive them.

I realise this may cause some angst with many of you, however it is of great importance that we follow the rules of this site. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

So, uh, is there some catch to logging in to the chatroom that I'm missing? I've tried looking around for an explanation, but I can't see one. I've tried Firefox and IE. I've tried changing the case of my name and password. Is there a registration separate to that of the forum involved?

I'm pretty sure you type your username (not your forums name) and your password.  That'll log you on.  If that's wrong, someone correct me.
