These be rules!
« on: August 02, 2006, 03:24:59 AM »

We regulate any stealing of his property
And we damn good too
But you cant be any geek off the street,
Gotta be handy with the steel if you know what I mean, earn your keep!
Regulators!!! mount up!

Things have gotten a trifle nuts in here lately, and it’s time we made like Warren G and Nate D-O-Double-G. With the Cold Steel. Etc. As we want to make this place reasonably welcoming to new people.

The following rules apply immediately. The mods haven’t had a chance to discuss them yet, so they may be revised.

1) No abuse. Disagree with people’s opinions as much as you like, but don’t get personal. A degree of leniency may be exercised where people are well known to each other, and the exception for light-hearted banter obviously applies, but it’d better be pretty darn unambiguous.

2) Abuse of new users will be particularly negatively received.

3) Zero tolerance of racism, sexism and homophobia appies. ‘Joking’ doesn’t legitimise it. Go here or here instead.

4) That said, we take a broader definition of offensiveness than most places – but, as we usually try to do, you should pick on the right targets. (See above rule.) It’s a subjective thing, sure, but we reserve the right to let our own tastes dictate the tone here.

5) All content to be M-rated at best. Minors use this site. In particular, overtly sexual behaviour will not be permitted. The entire rest of the internet’s pervert-friendly – take it elsewhere.

6) The chatroom may appear private, but it is not. All chats, including 'private' ones, are logged and will be reviewed in accordance with these rules. People abusing it will be banned from it, or from the entire site.

7) Users must guard their personal details extremely carefully. If you are using instant messaging, set up an anonymous address. This site can’t be responsible for any details you choose to give out.

8) Members will be given one warning if they are established members (defined as 15+ posts), and then banned for one week. Further bans may be longer or permanent.

9) Guests or members with less than 15 posts who abuse these rules will be subject to immediate removal.

10) This is primarily a humour site. Act consistently with that, and this will become a less intolerable place to be. We hope.

If there is a problem, report it to the moderators using the link under every post. We promise to keep any reports as anonymous as possible, but be aware that the reporter is sometimes obvious.

Kind regards,
The Warren to tha G

Note – on chatroom logging, because it wasn't made clear that private chats could be read by administrators, I won't go back and read old ones. But from now on, be aware it may happen.

Which reminds me of another rule...

11) No absolute privacy. We also reserve the right to read your private forum messages, but only in extreme cases where we fear imminent harm to you, another member or the site, or suspect serious, verging-on-criminal wrongdoing. You will be notified if this has occurred. In other words, if you want to have a truly private chat with someone, do it by some external means. This is a free service, so we don't think it's unreasonable to regulate how it's used.

Another rule:

12) Violating others' privacy is frowned on. Members may not reveal any personal information they know about another forum member which may identify them without their consent.
