The Chaser Announces National Tour

After sell-out seasons at the Sydney Big Laugh and Adelaide Cabaret
festivals, the team behind the ABC TV series CNNNN and The Chaser
Decides are embarking on their first national tour, bringing their stage
show, Cirque Du Chaser to audiences in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney,
Newcastle, Wollongong, and Canberra this September/October.

Delivering their political satire in the form of stand up, sketch, live music,
and video, the double-Logie award winning team returns to their roots
and gets back to what theatre is really about: abusing arts grants

“The show actually has nothing to do with Cirque du Soleil”, said Julian
Morrow. “We certainly won’t be doing amazing acrobatics or have high
production values. But it will be incredibly pretentious and ridiculously
over-priced, so there’s a link there I guess.”

Cirque du Chaser has already been critically well received. "Simply
brilliant," Advertiser reporter Rebecca Harrington said after watching a
rehearsal. "Cirque du Chaser is the funniest show Ive seen since I was
invented for publicity purposes."

The team plans to deal with the transition to live stage performance by
using the same technique that made their TV shows so popular. "Were
getting Kath & Kim to do a show immediately before ours" said Morrow.

Good to see the boys taking a bit of a risk with a national tour!

Also good to see that Adelaide, Hobart and Perth completely missed out - those bastards deserve no less.  Of course, you do realise that if you ever tour Hobart you have to work twice as hard because theres 2000 heads in an audience of 1000 people.

So is it a NEW show, or just a rehash of the one you guys did a few months back?  Doesnt make a difference to me really, because I didnt go to the last one  :D  ...but just wondering.

Im expecting an answer along the lines of "some old bits - some new bits" because thats usually how it goes...

Yep, some old bits (eg songs etc), some new bits (anything topical
obviously).

Lazy? Hey, no-one asked Shakespeare to completely rewrite Hamlet six
months later. Our shows got more jokes than Hamlet, too, though most
viewers would say its about as tragic.

We did the show in Adelaide a few months ago, and Perths a possibility
down the track.

Hamlet didnt need a rewrite, it was great the first time!  :D  (you asked for that one...)

I like how you completely sidestepped the Hobart issue, very politically correct of you...

Seems like most people had lots of good things to say about the last show...so who knows, I might turn up.  Unless its all sold out of course.   :x

Umm....its not really a national tour if you dont include Tasmania

And, while its true that in Hobart you would have 2000 heads in an
audience of 1000, what that really means is twice as many laughs
and twice as many brains - in fact youd only have to work HALF
as hard ;)

So, when can we expect to see an extra show slotted in? You only
have to keep going south from Melbourne

Just bought my tix for the Fringe also. A night with a political circus. How delightful.

No offence to the Chaser Guys, they have come up with brilliant satyr over the years...(my apologies to Ovid & the pederasts, Aristophanes and the wasps...) however the Melbourne show is prohibitively expensive...at $33 for a concession price ticket...(even the unemployed Larry Emdur would be over-awed)...the REM guys let me into their show for free...during the Orange Crush era at Festival Hall (where the Beatles played too)...either way, its refreshing to see truth-in-spruiking...good luck guys in Melbourne...it was difficult also to find reference to your show at the Malthouse Theatre website, so by chance I visited the Fringe Festival one...most of their shows cost $15/10...or even less...hell, some are even FREE (gasp)!

Congratulations, that was the biggest necrobump in a long, long time.

I'm so glad it was for such a worthwhile, illuminating post.

I think it saw the Cirque at the Thebarton Theatre, on the corner of South Rod and Henley Beach Road, Adelaide.

It's just across from Pete's Golf, although I think it's since been taken over by Drummond Golf.

In any case, this shop either is or was owned by Pete Ormsby, father of not-so-renowned golfer Wade Ormsby.

Once, someone stole Wade's golf clubs and tried to get a trade in for them at the shop. :D

They won the Darwin award that year.  It was awarded to them in jail.

:D
